Why S.A.G.? The initials S.A.G. stands for "St. Anthony Guide". These initials represent a simple prayer and a widespread Catholic "postal" devotion, inspired by a miraculous mail delivery from Orviedo, Spain to Lima, Peru in 1729.

The Miracle That Started It All
The miracle goes as follows: In 1729, a wife in Spain had been writing many letters to her husband in Peru without receiving a reply. Finally, she wrote one more letter and this time, asked for St. Anthony's intercession that her letter would arrive safely to her husband overseas. Practically overnight, her letter was miraculously delivered to her husband and returned with his reply within a few days! This was particularly miraculous because back in 1729, the postal journey from Orviedo, Spain to Lima, Peru would have taken many months.

Inspired by this miraculously instantaneous mail delivery, the S.A.G. devotion began. Many Catholics were inspired to inscribe the initials “S.A.G.” on their own letters, asking St. Anthony of Padua to guide and protect their mail on its journey for a safe and quick delivery.
